The cactus grow to heights reaching seven metres or more and stand like silent sentinels. At the end of their useful lives they are just driven off the end of the track to join other redundant locomotives. It is estimated that some are older than 5000 years old and are still going strong. It sits at one of the main entrances to Zion National Park and during the main holiday season thousand must drive past it every day. The structure moulds itself to the hillside surrounded by towering jungle-clad peaks and is well worth the four day slog along the renowned Inca trail. Seen across an azure glacial lake at dawn they resemble  a fantasy straight from the pages of Tolkien. Known for the incessant winds that blow off the huge glagier we spent six days hiking around its glowering form. Certainly one of the best trekking locations on the planet.]]></description></item></channel></rss>
